Unless you plan on installing double glazed windows, using more than a patch of MLV to dampen the metal door panels is probably overkill. Note that lot's of MLV in the doors is not very effective as you have a large area above it with relatively low noise isolation properties, called a ""window". It wont do much towards reducing road noise generated by your HL. Maybe worth while to see if an RX350 uses specialized suspension and subframe bushings, that fit the HL.Īdding *some* MLV to the doors, 2nd row floor pan and roof will attenuate airborne borne noise from cars around you. They typically employ a large amount of isolation rubber (often fluid filled isolators now days) at the suspension member couplings. In most cases, they add mass dampening material to the wheel wells front and back, driver/passenger footwells, to the firewall, and to to the rear wheel wells, and rear cargo pan. You might look closely at a luxury car to see how they achieve higher STC (sound transmission coefficients). Adding MLV to the entire car may not be the most effective approach. In your case, tire and road noise is generated and transmitted with the largest intensity at the wheels and structure borne from the suspension. Noise is best addressed at/near the source. If any requests roll in, I'll list them below: Oh and if some of yall are sitting there scratching your head asking "mass loaded what?" take a look here, this is a very imformative website: This won't happen for a few weeks, the stuff probably won't get here till next week, then I'll slowly do the doors then one weekend knock out the interior. Otherwise I'm just going to show the end result/process shots. SO, since I'm already taking the car apart, post below things yall would like to see a walk through on (and don't say the entire car :lol, and I'll post it. Particularily things like "how do I take the door panel off", or things like that. The reason I'm posting this now and not when I get things rolling/installed, is because some questions get asked a lot. Point is, I'm turning my Toyota into a Lexus To do that, the entire interior has to come out, down to the bare metal (leaving headliner and main dash in place). Some of yall might know, MLV is a substitute for lead sheeting used in noise isolation/deadening/dampening/blocking (whatever you call it, I've heard it said too many different ways). Proven History - Over 1.5 Million square feet of Mass Loaded Vinyl Sound Barrier soundproofing products have been installed in projects nationwide.Well, I did something stupid and decided ripping out the whole interior would be a smart decision So now I'm the owner of (well not yet, its shipping) 100sqft of mass loaded vinyl (1lb/sqft) and 130sqft of closed cell foam.Sound Barrier is available in various sizes and densities to optimize your results while saving space and money. Pound for pound, Sound Barrier products have better noise reduction characteristics than steel and other building materials. The mass of MLV Sound Barrier blocks sound while its flexible nature dampens sound energy, giving improved acoustic performance over competitive rigid products. Why Choose Commercial Acoustic’s Mass Loaded Vinyl:.STC based on stand-alone without wall assembly Features and Benefits of Mass Loaded Vinyl Stand-alone STC-rating of 20-31 (varies by material thickness).Mass Loaded Vinyl Product Specifications:
